a/c conversion

Ok- here's my question (hopefully directed to Benzmac) On my 1988 300sel a/c, I purchased the ICE Cube from the local dealer (0015420219) and made 4 jumper wires. Those I connected as followed: #1 klima to 85; #5 klima to 30; #7 klima to 87; and #10 klima to 86.(I removed the klima relay) I get nothing-compressor doesn't move. Now I noticed on the original klima(via ohm meter) that 31 is continuous to Gk-. So when I pull to klima relay, no longer is there continuity between socket #1 and #11(31 and Gk- on relay). Should I be running a wire from #1 socket and #11 to get this continuity. I also assume #87a on the ice cube is now used. Help! thanx Nick

The wiring isn't correct.

I don't have the diagram in front of me, but I know this...

You have to build it with a wire jumping the 86 and the 30 on the relay because you need power from 15 on the car to power up the coil side of the relay and the power output. Once you do this, you just get the trigger from the pushbutton through the drier (don't remember the pin on the car) and put it to the 85. This will trigger the relay. Now you just have to get the output (87) from the relay to go to the compressor clutch.

Good luck

You should only have three wire coming from the relay going to the car when done, but 4 on the relay. One that jumps 86 and 30, 87, and 85....

THANKS TO GERMAN AUTOMOTIVE M.F. WILL THE COMPRESSOR STILL BE CONTROLLED BY
THERMOSTAT CONTROL WHEEL? ALSO WHAT ARE YOU REFERRING TO AS ICECUBE?

I have had to do this with 134 conversions because of the higher pressures.
It does work. The ice cube is a generic term for the Bosch 5 pin relay. You
can get one at any stereo shop... It will be controlled by the pushbutton and
will cycle on and off yes./.

I'm afraid I'm gettin' a tad confused, here. According to the first bit of info I found under "search" was that which has been posted by "jbaj007" above to which I refer, noting that there are 4 wires involved from the klima plug to the ice cube. Now the reference is 3 at klima plug and 4 at the relay. This makes sence since I had no voltage at the solenoid on the ice cube and therefore nothing works. So I guess at this point, I hope to hear from Benzmac as to what changes I need to make. I appreciate your response and thank you. Nick

When baking a cake it is always best to know what you are doing. just following a recipe doesn't make prize winning cakes.

Donnie described functionally what is necessary, jba007 found the exact recipe (I hope as I too do not have it in front of me).

In the recipe, term 10 is hooked to 86 on the relay (it is performng the "term 15" function), term 5 is hooked to 30 on the relay (term 30 is the current carrying leg). In Donnie's generic example he is powering both these functions with one lead. That is the only difference.

Those 4 or 5 pin relays have a control side and a switching side. In normal applications term 30 and 87 (the in and out) are large current carrying wires. The other legs term 85 and 86 are small low current lines and can have their polarity reversed in some applications. They can work either way.
