W210 blower (W140 retrofit?)

A year or so ago I did the retrofit on the W140 blower fan regulator into my W210 chassis. I can't find the great illustrated how-to on that. Anyone help me with a link?

Also, that was a 1998 model. A coworker wants me to fix her 1999 E300, VIN# WDBJF25H5XA918522. It exhibited all the same issues as mine -- sporadic fan for a day or two, followed by no fan at all. Same song, second verse for her car?

Thanks for any tips -- hope to knock that project out this weekend.

Cheers, John

Go to the "Buy Parts" link to find the VIN cutoff for the new blower and regulator. If the car is before the cutoff, it is the second verse. If it is after, you simply buy the new-style regulator for the car.

You could also remove the bottom panel and visually inspect it. The two styles look rather different.

You're in luck John.

That one is PNP with a new part.

I think all 99's fall within the revised part. Mine did and it is a 99 with a mid 98 prod date.

Awesome, thanks for the help, you guys. The local dealership by default just tells you that you need the whole new assembly for any W210 -- housing, blower, etc. I pointed out that there's a VIN split, and only then did they quote me the single part. I've got it waiting in will-call, and will give the replacement a shot tomorrow. Just gotta remember how to disassemble that underdash, and will be working in a 90-degree asphalt parking lot. Fun times ahead.

Thanks again for the tips!

Cheers, John
