Soft brakes on S430

Are the brakes on a S430 supposed to feel somewhat mushy? This is the first time that I've driven one, and the pedal travel seems a bit much. Pads and rotors are fine. It feels like there's air in the system. There aren't any warning indicators showing up on the dash. The brakes are strong if you mash them, but the pedal seems to go half way through its travel. If this is the way it's supposed to be I'll get used to it, but it doesn't seem right.

It's a 00'. I was going to bleed it by sucking brake fluid through the bleeders. Is there any reason that won't work with this brake system?
