failed modulator & overfilled crankcase
Recently my vacuum modulator on my 420sel has allowed my transmision fluid to be burned in the engine, and I haven't had a chance to find a banjo bolt to read the pressure on the transmission so I can install the new modulator. I have just been topping off the tranny every other day or so. Today while playing with the car, I noticed my crankcase was overfilled with oil, and I have not done an oil change since last month and I know I didnt overfill it. In fact the car actually leaks a small amount. I smelled the oil and it does not smell like gas or transmission fluid, just oil. Is there any way the vaccum modulator leaking and my crankcase overfilled are related? Any help is appreciated.

fwiw, if it's anything like the 3.5 M116 or 4.5 M117, oil level readings can vary greatly on a warm engine that's been sitting a while, a warm engine just run, a cold engine, or a cold engine just run (and shut off before a full warm up).
I always checked a warm engine that was sitting a while, it seemed to indicate the highest level. |
No connection, the trans oil is going into the intake manifold, then getting burned. Only way into crankcase would be past the rings, which is unlikely.

Hmmmmm. Is it possible that all of the oil is drained out of the oil filter and causing an overfill of the crankcase? The car was not exhibiting any indication of an overfill, I just checked the oil for good measure and it was full.
