Installing New Springs

What tools do I need to install new springs on my 500SL. Are there special tools to take out the old springs. Do I need to unbolt the top of the strut to let the wheel drop down. I am going to replace the struts and shocks with Bilstein HD struts. The stock parts are to soft for me.

you should get a proper spring compressor for mercedes springs if you want to do them yourself.

IT can be very dangerous.

I let my mech do the springs, his price was reasonable, and I had him swap the spring pads around a few times before it looked the way I wanted.

Ashman,
who did your alignment? and what specs did you use?
Thanks!

Alignment?

hehe

Funnily enough my mech checked it after the springs were installed, and it was still fine.. lol The rear is ever so slightly tucked in at the top. the front, just lower.

Car still tracks perfectly straight and all.

Tire shop looked at it and said it didn't need it...

Kinda weird, I thought I would have had to align it but I guess my mech made a few minor adjustments.

As for specs, couldn't tell ya. only specs I cared about were the amount of drop it would look good at without looking slammed...
