Salvaged Mercedeses

Will anyone buy one? i have access and can get just about any benz out there, but salvaged, meaning it was stolen, hit, tranny, engine, flood, etc, i come up across really neat benzez sometimes, and most of them are very easy fix, bumper, fender, lights or some are just 100% but wore stolen and recovered.

Already got one. My attitude toward it is starting to turn south, but I really haven't put any money into it yet aside from getting it inspected, insured, and registered. I have parts on hand to replace the driver's mirror and some trim pieces, and parts on order to rebuild the carburetors. It's probably good that I think of it as a POS, since if I got attached to it, that would run counter to my goal of doing a little work to it and flipping it for a tidy profit.

I agree that salvage vehicles can be a great deal, but mine isn't turning out to be quite as easy as I expected.

If your insurance company knows it's a salvage title, they may decline coverage.

Regardless of the story, a salvage title erodes value significantly.
Some people will bite due to the stiff discount, but many will not buy the car regardless. I've bought a few, and have always met resistance when selling.

A salvage title car needs to be a really good deal for me to get interested in one....

Under some circumstances here in Indiana a car with a salvage title can be retitled with a clear title after repair, I am pretty sure.

My favorite machinist bought a 90 something 300se which had hit a rock and ruined the motor and replaced the motor and then got the title back to a non salvage title and sold it along.

That car was surprisingly quick with the little six.

its very hard to sell salvage, but i am saying to get one cheap and dogg that son of a puta, some are very good deals,

I bought two-1990 190E 2.6, am driving it everyday and love it. I had to really do alot but I enjoy that. Am currently redoing a 1992 300E that caught fire under hood, burnt everything-fire followed drive train to fuel pumps then came up passenger side of car and kept on burning. Am driving car but still a few bugs plus needs a paint job. Both were purchased for 400.00 apiece. I am always looking for a deal. I would like to get my hands on a 1990-1996 (SL) with a six cylinder for my kind of price.

I don't think the issue is salvage per se, rather what YEAR and MODEL is the salvage car? My uncle is in the biz, and stays away from late-model salvage euro cars. I don't blame him. Salvage on a 10-15 year old car may not be as big a deal as on a 2003 S55. Also, on the newer cars, there are a lot more hidden issues potentially. MANY more subsystems that may not stand out to the naked eye and casual appraisal. If you don't know EXACTLY what you are getting into, or have a pretty damn good idea, probably best to stay away.

right on, somebody is getting idea,
if its so good why would they salvage a $50k-100k car for??? on other hand a cheap older benz no prob.

Benzman, I am deeply hurt. I did not set those prices. I simply paid what was requested. I look for and buy what other people consider junk and turn it into a beautiful carriage with majestic white horses. Its like magic. Most of all, I really enjoy doing it.

No I wouldn't touch one with a 10ft pole unless it was dirt cheap. You can fix a lot but one the body is cocked it can never be like new again.

Any car that I plan on keeping and more so an old MB that I plan on putting some money into has to have solid bones.

i mean good condition salvaged cars not bent and wraped up ones, esy fix like lights, fenders, glass, vandalized, etc.

I bought a salvage 1998 E320 when it was 3 years old, still have the car. In our case, resale is never an issue since by the time we give up a car it is very well used and salvage, rebuilt, or not, it is of little issue.

With that said, it is not for everybody. I applied for the rebuilt title and did all the paper work, etc. and it took some effort. Also, there were some unexpected items, but since I fixed them myself it was not much $$

After driving the car for 7 years it has turned out just fine as an investment (not that cars are ever investments)
