2.5 16v valve clearances
Hi
I have a need to adjust some of the shims on my w201 2.5 16v. It appears i can unbolt the camshafts from the cam drive and therefore not disturb the timing. Can anyone confirm if this is true and if so, what are the torque settings when putting it all back together for these bolts and the cam cap bolts also. Thanks in advance keith |
Yes, first you unbolt 2 OF the bolts & leave 1 bolt that you can un-bolt when the engine is at TDC.
As you remove the cam bearings, loosen each bolt a turn at a time so that the camshaft doesn't break, and likewise when re-installing. |
Thanks,
without a manual how do i know for certain where TDC on Number one cylinder is ? I could rock the crank back and forth around a point with something sticking out of the spark plug hole. Don't really want to try this as its a bit of a bodge. How would i lock the cam wheels to undo the 4 x bolts Thaks again in advance. keith |
