Factory made? Never. There was never a separate line to make stretched w126's. It was a lot easier to send them out to coach builders to have them done to the customers tastes.

Texas oil tycoon or rich saudi oil sheik.. its always one of the two that has a w126 limo... Another thing, sedans were marked as "Limo's" in Europe since they don't use the word sedan.

You are right, basically, about the 600s and production W126 factory limosines.

The last 600s were made in, I believe, 1981, at which time the W126 was inproduction.

Their was no regular "Guards option" for the W126, BUT the factory DID build the equivalent.

Anyone wanting to know what they looked like should search "Saddam W126" or equivalent until the threads come up here or on Benzworld.

Saddam had 3 white 1988 560SEL ones he'd ordered from the factory in Germany. they had armor plating, reinforced windows and other things.

When he travelled, all three would travel together, and they had identical license plates, and were constantly shuffled around in the convoy so assassins could not figure which one Saddam was riding in.

I saw a video of one such convoy in action

One of the cars is located in Hartford Connecticut where the owner recently tried to sell it for a million dollars. He was a US soldier who bought it for $5500 in Baghdad and illegally imported it through Portugal to the USA where the EPA DOT impounded it, but eventually released it
