1990 Mercedes 560 SEL
Some questions on a 560 SEL...
Does anyone have the wiring diagram for this car? I need to track down an issue with the power seats and telescoping steering wheel not working. It appears to not be a fuse or relay. Question on Oil pressure: When i start up the car it idles right at 3 where it is suppose to and while driving down the road it idles at 3. When the car is warmed up the car's oil pressure while idling is around 1 -- Is this normal? The car is idling a little rough from not being driven for awhile, and may be causing the low oil pressure? |

Get the factory manuals.
The wiring changes slightly during the W126 production run, and you will need to look at a diagram that includes at the oldest and 1986 model. Did you try to turn your key slightly counterclockwise and see if the chairs and column work? Oil pressure at hot idle can be as low as .5 bar per the factory. Jim

I have not tried turning the key slightly counter clockwise. I will give it a try and see if that works. Thanks! |

OK, The key trick did not work. Beofre i start tearing apart wires, etc. Is there anything else i should try?
I have: Replaced power seat fuses Replaced the one relay for power seats (is there more than one and does the diode have to be in for it to work as its not there.) Tried the key trick just mentioned Tried using the power seats with the doors partially opened (someone mentioned that it could be pinched wires in door and this sometimes works) Cleaned Switches (i did not tear the door apart to do this, just sprayed a little in the switches... pretty sure this is not the problem since everything that does not work is on the same power supply) Any other suggestions? Yes, the switches could have just gummed up from lack of use... just like the tracks on the bottom of the recline rear seats (my SDL and 560 both have this issue). Have you pulled the seat to verify the motor is still plugged in? You could simply jump the motor with 12v to see if it moves...
Have you replaced all fuses yet in the box? They're due at this age along with cleaning all contacts within the box. I get around 0.8-1bar at hot idle in the summer, in gear. 15W50 M1 oil. 1bar is around 14.7psi. "rough" idle could be from many issues... vac leaks, wrong spark plugs, tired cap/rotor, etc.

Seems like the Jetronic Mercedes from this era always have a rough idle...mine idles roughly most of the time, and my uncle's mother has had her 560SEC in the Mercedes dealership several times and has spent thousands trying to eradicate the rough idle. Only 80k miles on the car.
My 300SEL also idles right around the 1 mark at hot idle.
