"Limp Mode" question

Ok - so this is the first time I have heard of the "Limp Mode", so I have a couple of questions related to my 124 (88 300TE). (see "124 Tranny")

1. As it relates to my 3200 rpm limit (in drive as well as Park or Neutral) - does the 88s 124 have this mechanism, and if it does could this be the culprit? (I have researched the threads related)

2. What are some possible reasons for excess carbon buildup on the spark plugs (the exception being octane and I have also used chevrons product) (I have also researched the related threads)

Any help appreciated!

Limp mode is in reference to Electronic fuel/throttle/or trans controls. In the 1988 300E there isn't a limp mode on these items. The only RPM governor is in the fuel pump relay on these engines.
Build up of carbon is common on these cars WHEN the valve guides are worn or the valve guide seals are too "hard".

Thanks MB - could the fuel pump relay be faulty - or would it just quit?
