If you use OEM pads, and the anti squeal paste you should not have any noise. Pads should be "beeded in" {be easy on them} for at least 200 miles, and they shouldn`t glaze.

As '91 560 stated, the shop guy should have put the silicon paste on the back side of the pad next to caliper housing. Can't say for sure this would be the cause of all squeals but my own jobs in my garage here at the house do not squeal. Ask him about it or take them off and look for the paste. Also make sure the wear indicator tabs are in the correct position (pad can be switched from one side of caliper to other and be 180 degreees out of position.)

Those metallics tend to be not as smooth ("metal on metal") as OEM. I'm going to try Mintex - have em on my Passat and the dust is less but they are also a light brown and less noticeable. After 25k there's still a lot of meat on em. I don't know if the MB application Mintex is the same compound as I have read differing opinions about performance, squealing and dusting...
