Rear Tension Bar

I have a 380 sl and have a broken sway bar link on the rear tension spring. I have taken the old one off ( which screwed into the wheel on the bottom side ) but the new sway bar link that I bought has a nut/bolt type installation both top and bottom. How do I install sway bar link on the bottom side? Does the axle have to come out to get to the bolt and install the nut on the bolt?
