Crankshaft bolt problem
 
I was just wondering how to get the damn thing out. I have the engine block on a stand with the Cshaft in it. Can anyone tell me how to get that bolt out without me dammaging anything?

What engine? The one on my M103 was a pain too. You have to lock the flywheel, you can rent a flywheel lock for the M103. I think the torque spec is like 200 ft/lbs.

The 27mm bolt is on there at a couple hundred ft/lbs. If you don't have a 1/2" impact gun then I'd suggest you get hillbilly on it. With the pan off, wedge a piece of 2x4 between the crankshaft and block to hold the crank while you use a breaker bar to get that bolt loose. Don't worry the wood is soft enough to not hurt anything but make sure you're not interfering with the oil pump when you have tension on the 2x4. With the bolt off, the hub usually isn't terribly tight on the snout and may come off by hand with a little coersion. If it's stubborn you may end up putting two pry bars behind it to wiggle it off. If it is very stubborn, you may want to find a puller to pull the hub but I doubt that will be necessary.:cool:

I don't have an impact so i guess i'll have to do it by hand. That sucks. Also i'm kind of concerned about the bolts that are holding the block on the stand. I'm affraid that they will snap because of the torque applied on the breaker bar. By the way it is an m103.

If you already have it on a stand, rent an impact. I got mine off with a 3/8" impact, get a 1/2" if you can. 1 and 1/16" socket will work too. Use lots of penetrent and maybe a little heat from a blow torch.
