89 420 want to jump out of park

This just started yesterday. With the shift lever sometimes in Park the engine will not start. Jiggle it a bit or bring the lever to Neutral and it starts fine.

Also when in Park the 420 doesn't lock in gear and wants to roll farther than it used to. It used to roll no more than 3 inches before it locks in Park, now when in Park, it can roll 6 inches before the "lock" in Park can be felt.

Any ideas?

thanks

Sounds like a defective shifter Transmission lever or shifter grommet, Drivers side under car , Always work safe.

I have the same problem. As far as the car moving when in park,i was told that a worn out part in the trans.was the cause. As far as it not starting in park, that is caused by the Park/Neutral switch.I replaced mine but it still gives me a problem. It seem to be moving out of adjustment.
