Did you remove the center console where the radio and ashtray, pushbutton control is located. If not remove it.

Hi there , i know that the last thing you want to do is crawl around under your car when trying to work on the interior but the only way to remove the console is to unscrew the main cable adjuster . This is situated where the two rear park brake cables converge just above the main driveshaft, it is best reached after jacking the car with a 3/8 drive ratchet , 6" extension and 13mm socket . You will find a bolt facing towards the nose of the diff , unscrew this untill the cables go very slack you can now raise the handbrake lever far enough to remove the console.
When readjusting check that the wheels can be turned without binding as you tighten the adjuster.
I hope this helps Linds Cornwall UK

I loosened the cable... then removed it.... and the emergency brake goes all the way up and console is out ...
