Any help, Auto transmission not shifting (E320 1998)
 

first of all my English not so good


The story started 2 weeks ago, when I felt some strange smell coming out of the car, then I discovered that the transmission cooler cracked inside radiator & mixed oil and water. Even at the time I discovered the problem the transmission was shifting properly. I have called mobile car to carry my car to mechanic to avoid damage to transmission. The mechanic replaced radiator, flushed the trans- and radiator, replaced filter and add new oil. 1 week from flushing auto transmission and cooling system, I felt some change in shifting way then I the second week transmission not shifting at all if it cool down I well shift for a minute then stop again. Diagnostic scanner give these codes



116 --> 20 (Transmission oil temperature sensor defective/Starter lock-out contact not functioning) &



147 -->51 (Gear implausible or transmission slips)


Any idea??:confused:

The codes 51 & 147 are usually BAD codes.

A scanner can look at long term clutch adaptation numbers to confirn that.

TRANS SLIPPING
I Open The Top Radiator Hose And Find Oil In Water. Had A Shop Replace The Radiator And Flush The Trans Lines , Torque Converter And Trans Its Ok Radiator Was Full Price The Work Was Done By Testing The Radiator Water

any advice
 

Is there a procedure that I can follow for checking or advice?:confused:

Use the scanner as MBDOC said, if the adjustments have been occuring for many months, it may indicate a long term problem and that the trans has reached the end of its ability to adjust inself further.

need help my 1998 mercedes s420 wont shift down
 

hi there everyone I'm new to the forum and I'm having trouble with my dads 1998 Mercedes s420. The car starts up fine but when you put it in drive it drives normal but wont shift down don't know what to do need help. Thanks :)
