Where is the fuel filter on a 1989 190E 2.6?

Under the car, hidden by a plastic cover on the driver's side, roughly were the backseat is. Get under the car near the rear wheel and you should see the cover that needs to be removed. The fuel filter is packaged with the two fuel pumps and the fuel accumulator.

Change Process
 
When I break the filter loose does the fuel pump control the flow? In other words I'm not going to have a fuel spill am I?
