TDM lists both manual & auto differentials as 3.07/1 ratio.

Doc,

Thanks for looking that up, I saw the PM showed the exact same replacement #. It seems odd that the ratio's that year are the same, I was wondering if anyone knew why they were?? What prompted the change later on? The reason is that I am still trying to find a decent 603.912 N/A to put in my 300E and would love to know what ratios were in the Euro diesels, manny or auto for the 300D and 250D? Anyone with experience driving any of the above, please post. The W124 250D especially is a popular taxi, and would think that the factory ratio would be well over 3.07 to carry the weight.... Thanks!

Only "euro" W124 diesel that I have even seen was a 1986 250D.
It was a 5 speed.

TDM lists ratio on W124.125 as as 3.42/1 in 1985 & then 3.64/1 after 10/1985

The later 124 300d with the five cyl. 2.5l motor has a ratio of 2.65. It takes a while for that one to wind out but once rolling it will cruise right along at 85 with no sweat.

If you have a 3 liter na diesel and a five speed I would think you could pull a 265 or a 288 with no sweat and get great mileage. If you live where you will be taking off on hills and such maybe stay away from the 265. A 307 would be no sweat, I don't think in a 124.

If you wanted a little more pep the diff from the 190 16v might be in order, IIRC that is a 336 or 327.

The 364 is what a na 123 300d carries with either stick or automatic.
