ticking noise

I have a ticking noise in my engine on the left side only when hot. A mechanic told me I have a broken plastic oil plug in the engine and would cost $350 to repair. Is this a difficult repair. Also my transmission does not go in reverse when hot but is ok when cold. The car ia a s500 sedan. Please advise?

I've been through the S500 engine completely and the only thing that makes any sense to me is that some of the cam oilers may be stopped up. If that's not the case you may have a bad valve follower (or lifter) or low oil pressure. As far as the transmission problem you need to have the pressures checked to determine the problem. Just to add in my experience slow to go into reverse meant replacing the transmission.

The ticking noise in the engine was caused by 3 dry rot spark plug wires shorting out. I was told I need a new transmission because the reverse bands are gone. Cost will be $2800!!! Ouch!! Any way of getting it done cheaper??????
