Airbag replacement 1994 c280
There is a sticker on my door frame that states the airbags expire 12/2008. I have done some searches but not found a good source for replacement bags. Has anyone found a good source for replacements? Should I really be worried about this? Thanks.

DIdnt they do away with the expiration date on the older cars for airbags? or they were at least extended a few more years.
If it was my car personally, I wouldn't worry about it. The last car I parted- an 89 300E hit hard in front- it's airbag did it's job, it deployed like it should and saved the owner from her own stupidty. |
I had no idea that they HAD expiration dates.

I believe that older W124s that had airbargs were originally 10 years, and they were extended to 15. I too am a little concerned that my airbags need replacing, and the cost of new replacement airbags might be more than the car is worth. |
We did a demo last week, and used a driver's side bag from a 86 300E.
As John Candy used to say in the SCTV Farm Film Report: "Blowed up real good!". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWc54-5oJbk Biggest problem I've seen is that the seams start to split on the old ones. I've sold good ones (no seam split) on eBay, and they bring little money, so any split ones I run across, I save for the fun of exploding them. Sounds like a 12 gage shotgun going off. Quite hot afterward, as well. So far, we've exploded three, and will be doing another this afternoon at the MBCA driveway mechanic section event. Jim |
So I guess I don't have to worry. I do wonder about my safety inspection though, are out of date airbags something that will get a car inspection to not pass? Thanks.

I would seem that would be an issue for all manufacturers??? If it were a big deal we should have heard about it by now, right???
