190E take a while to start

You have to turn the key for about 4 sec till it start. When turning the key to start it makes a funny noise. It dosent matter if it is cold or hot out side it still dose it. Do I need a new starter?

190E,

You can start by checking the condition of the cap and rotor. Then go on to your spark plugs and wires. If all of those are clean, try to get your battery tested soon ( before it really dies on you).

Hope this helps.

What kind of funny noise is it. Clanking, grinding, etc...? When the car starts does it have a rough idle? I had a similar problem with my 86. 4-6 seconds cranking until it fired. Turned out to be the OVP. Also, if you can, have a helper crank the car, while you check the voltage on the battery with a volt meter, the voltage could be dropping to low and causing a problem. Good luck, and let us know.
