Doesn't "Defrost" Setting automatically start the AC Compressor?
my 87 300D doesn't. Actually, when I have the ac on at the vents and cooling fine, if I switch to defrost, the AC goes off or at least the window gets hit with warm air. My Recir. button also is not functioning. Any ideas?

Defrost does run the a/c but also puts heat to the windshield regardless of the temp wheel setting. The a/c runs to dry the air so that it can defog the windshield more effectively than just hot muggy air.
