Zee,
Are you sure you have one (an 0xygen sensor)? Do you use unleaded fuel in your location? Is your car fuel injected (the "TE" designation would indicate it is fuel injected)? In order to have an oxygen sensor the car would have an emissions control system. Initially these were developed for US export models only, and eventually were made available elsewhere. The 200 engine in the car you have was not one of the ones imported to the US, and that is why I am asking the question. It may be possible that your car does not have a catalytic converter and therefore the controls that are required to make the combustion process work effectively with a catalytic converter. Jim |
Hi Jim
yes, it is fuel injected, we use unleaded, the note sticker under hood says 'KAT code 62/0', so i believe it has a catalytic converter, but am not sure if the previous owner might have junked it. |
Zee,
If you find the catalytic converter, the oxygen sensor is located just upstream of it and looks like a little plug screwed into a raised boss on the exhaust pipe. It has a wire coming out of it that goes up to the computer. When the catalytic converter is new (from the factory) it has a heat shield around it that also obscures the oxygen sensor. The likelihood someone replaced the catalytic converter if it was poisoned is pretty slim, as they are frequently bypassed or replaced with blanks in this country and they inspect for them regularly in most states now.
