Super Tech Oil

Does anyone have any experience/knowledge of Wal-Marts Super Tech motor oil. Who is the refinery? A few years ago I was doing some research on synthetic oil and someone said that Wally World's came from the same mgfr as Mobil-1 and users found it to be an excellent oil. Can anyone out there verify that?????

I've had excellent results with that oil.

Super Tech

There is a significant difference in the price of their oil vs the Castrol GTX 20-50 that I use in my 92 300E. I'm tempted to try it for my next change. I don't put more than 5k miles per year on her since buying the Prius in 2005.
Thanks for your comeback.

Won't hurt

Walmart does not have a refinery. They buy their oil from a quailty company that packages in their label.

Carquest does the same thing. Walmart has such buying power that their prices can be that much lower.

From a long thread in a racing clubs forum:
.............................................................................

Super Tech oil seems to be made by at least two companies depending on ones location.

One supplier is/was Exxon/Mobil, the other supplier is Warren Performance Products based in Nebraska. This company is not only a packager of oil but is a mixer and has its own products that are sold under the Mag1 and Polar names.

Here is a link that tells more about WPP: http://www.wd-wpp.com/about-warren.html

Warren/WPP has to meet the same API standards that any other oil has to meet in order to be API certified.

API certification means that the oil must meet at leat a minimum standard. An oil that has more additives doesnt mean that it is a better oil,if an oil has too much of an additive, such as polymers, the oil may not lubricate as well.

Polymers can also break down and do more harm than good.

Is Super Tech the best, that is up to the person to decide,it seems to do what oil is supposed to do.

And this email from Warren Co.:
........................................................
I sent Warren Dist. an e-mail. I have used the Walmart Super Tech products, with good results. Here is my e-mail from them...

Thanks for your inquiry.
We are one of WalMart's packagers for their Super Tech Motor Oils.
While there are others, we are one of their major suppliers.

We are a prime manufacturer meaning we do everything from blow mold the
bottles, attach the labels and caps, to also blend the oils from base
stocks, and additive packages. We do it all from start to finish, so we
don't use someone else's oil or package and just put the Super Tech
label on it. We do it from "scratch" right here.

As far as their other packagers are concerned, I can't speak to what
they do, but I know we produce their oil to the highest automotive
standards, and their specifications.
Hope this helps.

I use the Full Synthetic Supertech in my wife's Pathfinder and in my Yamaha F225 outboard. No complaints.

If they made a 50 weight version of it, I'd run it in my Bimmer as well.

I use it - no problems.

I have a 250,000 mile plus Subaru. I always used Castrol up until about 175k. After that I switched to Wal-Mart brand oil and off brand filters (Advance Auto brand, Wal-Mart brand) No problems.
