anyone know how a self-level (auto-level) car is suppose to work????

I've recently had some doubts about the auto-level in my 1998 E320 Wagon so I had someone (200 lbs) sit in the third row seat with the car off; the car had been off for several hours. Then I started the car. The rear end NEVER came up to the unloaded height; it didn't move at all but, it did make a few clicking sounds like a struggling motor for a few seconds.

Is this normal? Is this even a way to check the auto-level system?

Any ideas??

I'm not that familiar with the 98 model but the older models (not that older) use a hydralic pump and 2 pressure accumulators in the back for the leveling system. In my experience if your not losing fluid most of the time the accumulators are bad.
