Can 123 Climate Control Buttons be Refurbished or Cleaned?

I have intermittant blower activation on an '82 300D climate control. I used to be able to get it to work in Economy mode by repeatedly and randomly pressing the High/Low blower speed buttons, and/or the Off/Economy buttons. Same thing with the normal AC mode.

Now these two modes will not activate the blower, but I can get the blower to activate just fine in Defrost and the next two AC modes just to the right of Defrost.

My question is, would it do any good to try to remove the switch assembly and give it a good cleaning - maybe the switch contacts are accessible for spraying with contact cleaner? Also, could this be a dirty connector?

Anything else to try?

Couldn't hurt to give it a try. Carefully pry off the wooden trim panel and remove the screws. Pull the AC assembly control panel out and you can attempt to clean it and see if it makes things any better. These units tend to bite the dust after 15 years, and new ones are about $275. A rebuild may be the way to go, if cleaning doesn't help.

While you have the pushbutton control out, pop the bottom cover off and check the solder joints for cracks. They are especially prone to crack where the pc board is soldered to the pins on the side. BTW, use a magnifying glass, these are not big cracks but they can cause big headaches.
