Help! Camshaft Timing on a 2.6 190E

I have recently replaced my water pump seals and since i had oil leaks coming from the head, i decided to replace the headgasket too.
After buying a new one and installing it, i put my camshaft in and when i try to align the mark on the camshaft with the mark on the rocker arm, the piston hits the valve. Second of all, there is a second mark on the camshaft 180 degrees opposite of the first mark. So how would i know which mark it is first of all, as on mitchell and any other technical website, they just show a picture with the marks aligned. I am not sure what i am doing wrong.
Also On the crank pulley, there is also indications with timing marks. There is also one that says 24/0 and 12/0 but i am not sure what they mean and how i am supposed to set it up.

Any help would be appreciated.. and greatly needed as my benz will just sit in the garage if i dont get help. I just recently purchased new headlights + tail lights and grill and cleaned my whole engine, so i just want to put this thing on the road .. Thank you

update. I looked through soem posts here and someone said that there is an arrow on the camshaft sprocket and it should point at 9 o clock. And that on the left of the crank position sensor it should say 0|0 which means TDC. I have done these 2 steps and the valves do not seem to hit the piston but my engine will not start. It cranks but will not start running.

One of my guesses is the EZL ignition control unit. There is a vacuum fitting on it and a vacuum line goes in there. Does anyone know which vacuum line? and where is the other end attached. here is a picture

I am also unsure about the fuel pressure regulator. It has a lil black vacuum line coming out of it and im not sure where its suppose to go. here is a picture

The large black line with the white stripe is for the fuel tank vapor purging. It connects to the throttle body under the air horn. The black rubber nipple at the fuel pressure regulator is the safety overflow line in case the regulator diaphram ruptures. It connects to the breather hose that goes from the valve cover to the top of the air filter. There is a small hole in this hose near the v/c that should connect to the black nipple with a legnth of hard vacuum line. The port on the ignition module reads manifold vacuum. It should connect to the nipple in the #1 runner of the intake manifold.

FWIW, the vacuum line would not keep the ignition module from working. Something else is causing your no start. Put a little gas down the air horn to see if it will run.


edit: I may have been a bit oversimplifying things, the ignition module may very well be causing the no start but not because of the vacuum line. Making sense now?

thanks a lot for your response When you say Air Horn, what exacly do you mean? The air metering plate? That is above the Throttle Body?

Also i do not have my radiator, and air pump and the coolant reservoir connected as i was doing the whole engine overhaul, but this can not be the cause of a no start right? I just dont want to connect it yet, since i want to be sure it starts first , then i would connect it, to save hassles and trouble. I also do not have my airfilterbox connected yet, but this can not be it can it?

I do hear a buzz when i put the key in the on position and then goes away meaning the fuel pump is working correct? Again thanks a lot for your response, i will look to see what i can connect still.. oh by the way

i have another hose that i am not sure where it goes..
it is a Y connection hose that attaches to the 1st intake runner

and there is 2 other ends left which i do not know where they go. One is really long and the other is shorter. Thanks a lot for your help! I cant wait till this car starts

wait a second.

I just found out that i am not getting fuel to the injectors. I have fuel at the fuel distributor. The middle injector which i think is the cold start injector is wet and gets fuel. But i disconnected one of the injectors and first of all it wad dry and i put it in a cup to see if it will spray and it doesnt. The injectors do not work. I tested my spark plugs the same way and grounded them to metal and they fire. i do hear the fuel pump buzz and i do get fuel to the distributor. Just not the injectors... What should i be checking now?

Does anything happen when you depress the air flow meter plate?
