Head warning sound
Well I found out what was causing the sound. Driving along the road no creaking sound so thought problem had gone away steering had been feeling slightly strange and then it happend the ball joint popped out and I came to a rapid halt. Fortunately in a good place and I was able to get the car off the road ready for it to be hoisted onto the flat bed when it arrived. Of course the tyre damaged the wing when it pushed part of the lip out and the tyre had a cut in it.
About 3yrs ago I had a similar sound comping from the same side and then it went away and returned again the following year I went to a Mercedes specialist who replaced the lower rear track arms. A week later the same sound returned after wet weather and then disappeared until now. Earlier this year I had a more desturbing sound coming from the offside of the car which turned out to be the ball join which I had replaced. On my car the ball joint and bushes are part of a wishbone. Its quiet a quick job compared with a standard Merced as the spring are seperate from the shock obsorber. Unfortunately, with the offside wishbone the bolts where so tightly held by the metal sleeves they pass through at the centre of the rubber bushes that the garage had to cut very carefully through the bolts with a blow torch in order to remove the wishbone.
Keeping my finger crossed that this will not be necessary on the wishbone to be changed this time. If it the bolts will not come out of the sleeves, does anyone no if there is a specialist press to push them out with? I think the garage use a pneumatic hammer on the to try and knock them out.
