Oil Change HOWTO 2005 E500

I am a new owner of a 2005 E500. I believe I should be capable of changing the oil myself. Can someone post a pictoral of how to change the oil and filter or direct me where I might find instructions or a manual?

Thanks,

Mike

1) use the search function at this site to study: oil change, FSS, Topsider, No Dipstick, fleece filter, Mobil1

Some Mercedes have and don't have dip-sticks.

2) you'll need a filter wrench to loosen the filter. there is a Mercedes Part # for it and you can see it at the BUY PARTS tab on the top of this page.

3) some people suck the oil out of the non-existent dip stick, stick tube with a suction device, TOPSIDER or MITY-VAC.

4) you can buy a dip-stick tool that is a Mercedes Benz tool for checking the oil level.

5) you can use the dash display for checing the oil.

6) You may wish to get a new cap for the dip stick tube that has no dip-stick.

If you decide to drain the oil from the sump you'll need a 13mm socket for the drain and a new washer, plus a 8mm socket to remove the under engine encapsualting panel. I'm not positive of the socket sizes for your car.

Use the oil amount listed in your owners manual for refilling minus half a quart, then you can fine tune the exact amount with the dash oil level display.

Have any questions?
E500 is a real fine car, your lucky!

Read your manual for the correct oil capacity. The M113 engine in my 05 SL500 only takes 7.9qt. My manual states this and the MB DVD says there is a WIS error that shows all M113 engines taking 8.5qt. I check with my MB service manager and he confirmed the error. Some M113 take 8.5 and some 7.9qt. Again, read your manual. I purchased one of the dip sticks guaranteed to fit my engine but no go. It will not go all the way down the tube. Don't waste the money. I use this product from John Dow Industries to suck the oil out of my vehicles.

some one was telling me that the MB dip-stick tool takes a bit of effort- proper angle - to get it to fit properly as far down as it will go.
and I don't think it's supposed to go all the way in but you should feel it hit bottom then you can read the graduated scale once you pull it out.

I myself have never used one, so don't know.
