99 s320 Engine races (3500+ rpms)
 

I just replaced my AC fan regulator and I go to start the car and vavoom! It races right up 3500 rpms and starts to climb. What did I do? What do I do?:eek:

Anybody?

I'm assuming it done this more than just the one time?

Have you confirmed the carpet mat isnt up against the accel peddle or that the peddle isnt stuck in some other way?

If your reg was on the left side or you were working there, make certain the throttle cable and poenentioner are both moving freely.

Update- Pedal is not stuck down, fan reg is on passenger side, throttle cable is free and clear. After further inspection of my work, i noticed the wires going into the smog sensor were completely frayed at the connector(I had to unplug it to get to fan reg). So I disconnected the battery, unhooked the smogged sensor and carefully taped up the rxposed wires. I put it all back together, hooked up the battery. Now it won't start at all. It flashes "start error" at the odometer.

HELP PLEASE!

Arm the alarm and then disarm? Then start checking fuses under the hood and secondly under the rear seat next to the battery.

Guessing a fuse blew; which shouldnt have anything to do with the prior issue.

So I checked every fuse, and three were blown. None of the the blown fuses were labeled with anything to do with the car starting. However it starts, but still raced. After further investigation, when I replaced the fan reg I had to remove the long plastic housing that touches the throttle assembly. I inadvertantly knocked the throttle cable out of it's housing and the cable stop was caught on the housing which held the throttle open. Fixed. Works like a charm.

Rookie mistakes, I know. You've got to start somewhere. At least I didn't have it flat-bedded to get three fuses replaced and get a cable unstuck.
