m103 - Timing only controlled by R12 resistor?
 

How can I determine if the timing in my engine is correct? Is the R12 resistor the only thing that keeps the timing in check? Any possibility of it being off what it should be with the resistor in?

Highly unlikely the timing is off. It is read from three large segments on the flywheel. I was just looking in the 103 manual this week and remember the timing should be 7 to 11 degrees at idle. Mine came in at 9 degrees.

How did you test it? Just measure the resistance on the R12?
Also what manual are you reading? Just interested :)

Checked it with a timing light at idle. I have R12 pulled. The spec I believe is the same for the 250ohm and 750ohm resistors. I've got a mercedes 103 factory engine manual at work. I was studying up on fixing my low power and hard start. Still giving me greif though. I'm narrowing it down to a likely engine harness problem but I'm going to swap in some injectors and O2 sensor before I try the harness.
