380 SLC - what should I pay?

I've found a 1-owner 1981 380 SLC with 100K and all appropriate maintenance records (including the timing chain change to dual row.) Everything is original and looks and runs great.

How rare is this car and how much should I pay for it?

Thanks

This car is fairly rare, but not highly desired. You should look around for other prices on them before jumping in.

Look at AutoTrader.com

Benzmac is absolutely correct in his assessment. I would compare it to 450SLC and 380SL prices. There does not seem to be any sort of premium for the rare combination of the SLC and the 380.

380SLC

From your description I will call the value of this car $3500.00 to 4000.00 I have seen rough examples of this vintage coupe sell for less than 1000.00 and extremely nice low mile examples sell for over 10,000.00.
Look under the car for rust on the floors and frame as these cars from the north usually have problems with corrosion.
If the car is rusty but still looks and runs good figure the value to be about 1500.00 to 2000.00

These cars are great drivers and a great value for what you can buy them for. Even a rusty one can provide you with many miles of happy motoring.

If you like the car make the guy an offer, but be careful, you may then own it!

Bill...

Thanks for help!

This car is in wonderful original condition and (most importantly) my wife is in love with it, so I'm going to pay the $8,500 the guy is asking.

This is my first day on this forum and I'm really impressed with the level of MB knowledge and willingness to help I've encountered here.
Thanks again,

Jim
