300e misfire

In my quest to discover why i am not reving beyond 4800rpm i discovered that the fuel pump relay may be incorrect.
The item fitted has part numbers as follows
001 5457805
[02] 4zyl. kvs+kickdown
05 3702 05 12v
This item has 10 pins the numbers being
31 15 87 87h
50 td 30 87k 87v tf
The recepticle on the car has only 9 pins
This part appears to be for a four cylinder could it cause the problem ?
Also ,would like to check the correct part number for o.v.p.
Part number of unit fitted
201 540 3245
897162
Regards,
Richard Keane

Absolutely!!

The fuel pump relay has an rpm writen on it. That is the cut-out point. This is usually around 6000 for 4cyl and 6cyl, but the relay doesn't count revolutions it counts coil firings. The 6cyl will have 50% more coil firings than the four cyl at any particular speed.

In other words 6000rpms is 12000 coil firings a minute for a 4cyl and 18000 for a 6cyl. Put the 4cyl relay in a six cyl and it will cut out at 12000 coil firings/minute probably 4000rpms.
