300e misfire
In my quest to discover why i am not reving beyond 4800rpm i discovered that the fuel pump relay may be incorrect.
The item fitted has part numbers as follows 001 5457805 [02] 4zyl. kvs+kickdown 05 3702 05 12v This item has 10 pins the numbers being 31 15 87 87h 50 td 30 87k 87v tf The recepticle on the car has only 9 pins This part appears to be for a four cylinder could it cause the problem ? Also ,would like to check the correct part number for o.v.p. Part number of unit fitted 201 540 3245 897162 Regards, Richard Keane |

Absolutely!!
The fuel pump relay has an rpm writen on it. That is the cut-out point. This is usually around 6000 for 4cyl and 6cyl, but the relay doesn't count revolutions it counts coil firings. The 6cyl will have 50% more coil firings than the four cyl at any particular speed. In other words 6000rpms is 12000 coil firings a minute for a 4cyl and 18000 for a 6cyl. Put the 4cyl relay in a six cyl and it will cut out at 12000 coil firings/minute probably 4000rpms.
