Initially we had code 6 in our Modis scanner, the car's ASR light would come on, and the car would go into limp mode.
Ok, after making Mr. Daltons tool, we had codes in # 14 of 2,5,14 and in #8, code 8. We replaced the stop lamp switch, cleared all the codes, and road tested the car. After ten miles the ASR light came on again and into limp mode. Testing it again, we now have in #8, code 8 again, but in #14, we only have code 2. We still have code 6 in our scanner, but not in current codes (in history code). Code 2 in pin 14 has a lot of choices. Does anyone have an idea of how we determine which it would be? This car is driving us crazy.

Do you see/ have a 1/4" or so of slack in the cable at TB ???
If no, adjust it so there is. The Closed Throttle Pos sw has to have slack at idle . Also look around the eccel. pedal for bunched rug or mats, etc holding pedal from full release. And lube the cable..if it sticks, the car can go into limp.
Do not attemp to manually gas car from under hood , as that will bring up limp condition..pedal has to be gassed from inside car only b/c it is EA.

There is slack in the cable. There is no bunched rug or mat. We have lubed the cable. Any other ideas?

Give fuse # 6 a spin in it's holder.
Do you have an ABS lamp or flicker?

No abs lamp or flicker that we have seen. The time before (prior to replacing the brake light switch) the check engine light was on also along with the asr light.

The #6 fuse says it is for turn signal, horn, outside temp gauge. Did you mean that one?

Ok ..that fuse 6 would be the first generation. [ pre-'93]
Your is '93 -95, so it will be fuse 5.
Also do fuse 7 , as that is Chain switch ASR over-ride circuit......
If that ASR is comong on at speed , chek all tire sizings and pressure for uniformity. The N30 module does a 4 wheel comparison.

One more simple thing to do if codes have been erased is to turn the sterring from lock to lock a couple of times ...........

FUSE #7 had a lot of corrosion. we cleaned out, reset everything. drove car, was fine. parked it, drove again for less than a mile, went over railroad tracks, car died and ASR light went on. restarted car, asr on and in limp mode, drove back and parked. Restarted car, no asr light, but EA module was noisy. tapped on it until the noise stopped, and asr light came on. (we had previously tried a new EA, but there was no difference). This is the first time we have ever had any noise.

Ok

Go tap the OVP relay..that is direct feed for ASR system control module...see if you still have the old OVP part#.
If yes, change it regardless to the new part#.

If it is the new modified OVP, pull it and check the sockets and pins for burn evidence/corrosion , and pull the fuse on top and clean the spades .
No ABS lamp at anytime? Do you have ABS lamp with key ON for lamp verification?

Recheck for codes from last limp............pin 14

Just as a followup, the EA started making noise and the car would barely move. We replaced it last week (Mercedes had a rebuilt IN STOCK for 900). So far, so good. No more lights or limp modes. Thank you for all of your time and responses.

Hi again,
after replacing the throttle actuator, the car has been running fine, but the check engine light came on when starting it. We have code 04 secondary air injection and code 26 trans upshift delay. Neither code is in current history. We checked pins #8 and 14 and there are no codes. The car continues to run fine. any suggestions?

First start of diagnosis:
On code 4 --- does the AIR pump come on at cold start?
On 26,-- by-pass the delay SOV by connecting the two vac hoses together [ eliminating SOV] Drive car around block and see if shift delay is active.

Just wanted to follow up with this 93 MB. We located a vacuum line off under the timing cover, and all seems to be well. Have been driving this car for weeks now. No check engine light and runs well. Thanks again.

Now we have a 2000 ML320 that cuts out hot and cranks but won't start. We banged on the fuel tank and the vehicle started, so we replaced the fuel pump. Again, when it gets hot, shuts off with no spark and no fuel pressure, no power to the fuel pump relay. We have cleaned all the ecm connections, checked fuses, harnessess, etc. Any thoughts on this one?
