Oil temperature switch

Hi All,

My 1983 380SEC has an oil temperature switch screwed into the front timing cover close to the oil filter housing. My 1985 SE engine does not have a switch bot the same hole is plugged with a threaded plug. I was trying (don't ask why - this is not the issue) to put the same oil temperature switch from my 83 into the 85 and to my surprise the two threads are not the same size (one is like a 12mm the other is like a 14mm). Is there a specific reason for that? Is there an oil temperature switch that will fit the smaller thread in my 1985 engine?

Thanks,

Greg
