How can I stop this from happening? I am almost on my 3rd seatbelt loop for the automatic seat belt arm on my car.

I was thinking I should wrap some thin aluminum over it or something, but am unsure. Is there an adjustment I can make somewhere to stop the belt from slicing it?

It slowly saws away at the plastic piece over time, and I have gone through one already and the second one is on its way out. Passenger side is still original and has not one cut in it.

Why does the passenger side not cut through its one, but the drivers side does?

Should I reposition the belt latch piece so it does not put extra strain, or should I just go with my original plan and replace it with a new one and then put some aluminum around that corner?

I want to make it last, its not like it is a huge expense to keep replacing it, but it is a hassle for me to have to do it when it should last for more than a few months....

as I understand it, this condition seems to be a common "wear with use" related item...w/ SEC/ 300CE/ E320 Coupe's

I exercise extreme caution to avoid the sawing effect (and now it is habit) when retrieving the belt from the butler...

fyi- a plastic gear going out in the butler is also a common malady (due to wear and tear over time)....there's a (non OEM/OE) metal gear that can be retro fitted to strengthen this weaker point in the system

hmmmm maybe I need to just get a new one every 3 months.. thats about how long this one has lasted....

I don't think it is supposed to last this short amount of time.

The one that came with the car lasted longer than that, and it was already all the way cut through...

I will look for some thin aluminum and or some kind of wrapping to protect it when I get a new one.

I am thinking aluminum wrap painted will work decently and hopefully longer than 3 months..

wow- only 3 months new~

since a system is only as robust as the weakest link....the aluminum mod may then wear the edge(s) of the safety belt fabric (unless) smooth contact is made

....maybe some sort of adjustment to the retractor/ seat belt track positioning is in order? I can only imagine that MB engineers would have factored-out this type premature failure possibility in the base design...

maybe an entire custom made aluminum arm/presenter will remedy the situation for good? ...if you do happen to make one, you can sell them here like guido does with his piggy tails!
