Any tips on replacing subframe mounts W202?

I have been trying to track down the banging in the rear over bumps from a 1998 C230. I put the car up on ramps recently and was tugging on everything in the back of the car but could see anything loose. Today I had it up on jacks and had the suspension hanging. I tried sticking a screwdriver between the big bottom rubber backed washer at the bottom of the front mount and the subframe. Could't insert it. I then dropped the car onto the wheels so the car was supported by the suspension and the was plenty of space like 1/4" to slip the screwdriver in there. Looks like the front mounts are shot. Rears seem to be OK. Just wondering if I have to disconnect everything back there to drop the subframe enough and if I need to fab some special tool to get the bushing out?
