Oil Pan M104
Guys, Im half way through replacing the oil pan on my 2.8 104 (W124)...
Know all about raising the engine, etc. But I've unbolted the pan - but i can't get it lose where it mates up to the bell housing.... It looks like its got grey sealer around it... any suggestions? Tried the hammer and block of wood... Driving me nuts!!

Hi Kiwi,------- Don't beat on that aluminum oil pan with a block of wood & hammer. If it cracks you will cry & so will your wallet. Best way to soften that gray sealer is with a heavy duty heat gun that is capable of around 500*F. ---------
Heat around the area that you suspect is holding for 15-20 min. The sealer will get soft like chewing gum. Keep the heat going until you see the gap between the block & pan starting to flex, then it will break free. Those Germans use tough RTV. Good luck---- Ray |

I'm already crying, reason it's coming off is I punched a hole in it on the road....
Got it off in the end. There was a 10 mm bolt near the bell housing that I missed (5 times).... All replaced - took about 10 hours all up..... For others reference: -Remove bottom bolts on engine mounts -Remove steering idler arm -Remove Sway Bar -Remove Rad and Shroud. -Lower Power steering (?) hoses -Remove all bolts, allens around the pan. -Remove Oil level sensor -Jack the engine up with two jacks - one under the alternator mount, and the other under the Air con compressor mount. I got really worried a the extent I had to jack it. It ended up with a couple of inches under the mounts. -Move the pan forwards and down. It will take alot of patients. Installation is the reverse of removal
