help cant get the trunk open
 

I have a 85 380sl and the trunk will not open. No trouble with the vacuum as the doors work fine. I try the key in all the positions and opening it manually should overide the vacuum? Help me get this open I am stumped?

85 SL won't unlock
 

There are a couple of possibilities here, #-1 The metal rod to the vacuum element fell off.
#-2 The deadbolt actuator for the ATA is in the locked position.
If the rod fell off you will have break out the left taillamp assy to remove the latch.
If the problem is ATA try opening with the red dot key first. Check all fuses and replace any bad ones.

If you are desperate, you can use the method I used when I was a badaxe teenage terror. Screw a slide hammer bit into the key hole. One slam will put the lock into your hand. Less costly to repair than breaking out a tail light.

what is the ata, I dont see a red dot on my key. could it be a fuse. I have tried the key in every possible position

Have you pushed while turning, and vice versa? Sometimes putting pressure on your trunklid, while trying to unlock, can help.

Do your doorlocks continue to work a 2nd time around? (lock/unlock)
