Car Lift Points
 

Hi All!

I posted this in the SL forum but didn't get a response - I'm hoping the "tech" folks will be able to give me an answer..... we just installed a 2 post asymmetrical Bendpak car lift and are very much newbies to the car lift thing. The manual that came with the lift gives pad contact points for cars from 1990 on. I have a 450sl - can anyone out there tell me where the contact points are to lift the car? I was surprised at the variance between vehicles in the guide and don't want to crunch something by mistake...:eek:

Usually you lift a car on pinch welds in the back if the car has them. But if it doesnt have them then you put the pad on a body structural piece such as a support beam

Before lifting any higher make sure its safe by pushing the cars trunk, it shouldnt move much.

I don't know your model but usually there are jack pads directly below the jack points used for the vehicles hand jack.

On every MB that I have seen, that I can recall, their are four rubber jack pads. Usualy right below the hole you stick the tire jack in.

The problem is when I have the jack in the hole, I can't put no stand under the rubber pad because the jack is in the way.

Well up here in CT where we have road salt we learn very quickly to never actualy use those holes, since they will rot out. They are ment to be greased and forgotten about.

Put the jack under the rubber pad, and the jack stand under some sort of frame rail. The W210 I think has a nice one right up front, I forget its been awhile since I was under my friends E300D.

What kind of jack do use, Hat? A scissors type?

I have yet to get a flat tire, if so I'll just paint and re grease the hole after using it.

Yeah, that bad boy looks like it might take up too much room in your trunk for emergency roadside tire changes . . . .

Yeah I just use it around the garage.

Well this is what we found out - there ARE rubber pads in front of the rear tires of a '77 450sl, but there are NO rubber pads behind the front tires - we put the arms of the lift on the frame and it worked out great. My car is now much quieter with its' new cat-back exhaust...
