Fuel Injectors 300E

I'm changing the fuel injectors in my '88 300E. Anything unusual about this procedure on the 300E ? It looks pretty easy ... I've done it before on other cars that looked much more difficult than the 300E, but was just wondering if there is anything unusual I should watch out for. Thanks.

I'm probably merely stating the obvious here, but nothing special to change these injectors. just get the seals, nozzle holders and the injectors and put them in. Just did mine a couple of weeks ago.
Good luck,
F.J.

silly question

are these injectors ready to go? i mean, are they already
bent the right way, or do you have to do it?

They are "ready to go" . You just pop 'em in!
Well, thats what I did. No bending of any kind.
Hope this helps.

Fuel Injectors 300E

I just received them today, along with the o-rings, holders, etc. and they are quite straight. The injectors in the car now look straight also, so I think they should be pretty easy to replace. Thanks for your replies.

Alboneman,

Why are you replacing the injectors? Do you consider them a wear item? How much did the parts cost? Did you get an improvement of some kind?

I've never really seriously thought about doing it, but I have thought about getting one of those injector tester/hand-pump units to check them out. My idle's not as smooth as I would like and I was wondering whether you figured they were worth replacing every 100k miles or so?

I have a '90 300TE.

Cheers,
Steve

i hope your new injectors are made of brass. (to check
run a magnet.)

also, i looked at my injectors, and they are bent in
various ways. why are they straight?

What kind of injectors for what kind of car are you talking about joel?
I have seen quite a few CIS-injectors and they are all straight. Not bent in any way.

Scanny,
a rough idle could have multiple causes. It could be the injectors, if they are worn from using fuel other than good premium or other injection related parts. Try a fuel system cleaner like Slick 50
You could also have a bad oxygen sensor or collapsed motor mounts(usually the cause!).

I think you need a 14mm and a 17mm or 19mm (not sure, sorry.) open wrench for the injector and the fuel line itself and a 5mm ( I think it was 5mm.) alan wrench or socket for the holder. That is, assuming you have a M103 engine in your car.
Good Luck.

I have an M102 engine but the injectors are the same as the M103 so your numbers should be the same. Thanks!
