i want to make me a test meter . what all would i need to do this:confused:

The code reader materials depends a bit on what model you have and whether it has a 16 pin or 38 pin connector. A test meter would be somthing else entirely.

its 94 e420

That would be a 38 pin connector - in the black box where the battery would normally be if it weren't in the trunk. More info here - http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/tech-help/107630-e320-16-pin-dtc-charts-inc-pin-8-pin-14-a.html
You don't need the banana plugs, too big for that connector. Any wire of about 20 gauge will work fine.

when i made mine i used the 1.5" paper clip for the probe. made it about an inch long, cleaned the burr off the end from cutting it, soldered the wire, then covered with heat shrink leaving a 1/4" inch exposed. gives a good handle for probing with out shorting. they work well for a simple device.

. . . . very nice idea . . . good use for a common item.

If your car was newer you could get the pretty useless info you pursue from Auto zone for free. Why would they do it for free you ask. Because folk that know nothing about what they are doing will buy a lot of useless parts from info at that level. Fix a couple problems with your code reader and then decide who paid more money you or your brother :)

the people at auto zone here are almost as dumb as me. thats why iam glad i found these site like people like u steve that can point u in the right direction thanks
