300 e brakes get spongy
my 1986 300 e after driving for a while, the brakes get very spongy, i have to pump them to get the car to stop. i have replaced the master cylinder and the pads are fine and the problem still exists.
is it a problem with the abs or a vaccum. any help is appreciated. thanks dave |

Do you hear any funny noises when applying the brakes (such as the ABS motor or valves operating). If not, then you may have air in the master cyllinder or lines. If it gets "spongy" after driving a while, at what speeds do you get concerned. If low speed is the problem, I would bet on the ABS kicking in (you should hear and feel it if that is the case).

When was the last time you flushed the brake fluid?

If the brake fluid is more than 1 year old, change this first.
