fuel regulator question

1988 300E.

I am assuming that this component is the fuel regulator. It has a line going into it and then it exits out and goes to the fuel distribitor cap looking thing right next to it.

There is a hard plastic line that comes off the back of the regulator. It is about 3 inches long and is not connected to anything.

On the air filter holder there is a hose that goes to the valve cover and has a small plastic line coming off of it that is about 2 inches long and not connected to anything.

Question: it looks like these two lines were supposed to be, or were, connected at one time and maybe broke. Are these two lines actually one line that broke? is my regulator supposed to have intake vacuum?

I don't know about your particular model, but that sounds like the fuel pressure regulator. Yes, it is vacuum controlled.
