Strange 'nose' from trunk???

Hi I have been getting a nose from the trunk area of my SL500 that sounds like a motor running fast then slow. I have tried to pin point it but just cannot lcate it could it be my fue pump or perhapse the softop motor not stopping any ideas Please

The fuel pump is underneath the car close to the pax rear tire. The vacuum pump is inside the trunk behind the trunk trim on the pax side, near the fuel fill spout, and the soft top pump is under the spare tire.

The vacuum pump should be surrounded by a very thick closed cell black rubber insulator.

Maybe this will help you pinpoint it?
