Looking at an 89 300te

206k miles, A/C doesn't work and idle is not stable.
What other stuff do I need to watch out for? Does this have an SLS like my old 300TD? Also what kind of MPG are you guys getting with this car?
Thanks in advance for your time.

Erick

Yes all MB wagons in the USA have leveling systems.

With a 20 year old car, I would start with a good inspection including a compression test.

Thanks MB-Doc, the car was sold. I got scared of the idling problems.

You've described a car that will cost more to get right than the car is worth. "Get right" meaning fixing just the things you've described.

If it hasn't had recent transmission work, it will need it soon.

It's surely already had a head gasket replacement but could be ready for another.

The rest of the HVAC system may not be working properly, either.

Even the windshield wiper is complicated and possibly expensive to fix if it's malfunctioning.

If the cosmetics aren't good, it's a car ready for scrapping.

Mileage on these is 23 hiway. Premium fuel.

Just thought I'd throw my 2 cents in on the mileage - I have been getting mixed, but mostly highway of just over 25mpg w/ 93 octane

Yours is a sedan and he's asking about a wagon. Wagon has lower rear end gear.

Its a little better than 23 highway. I get roughly 23 right now and I have compression loss on my 1st and 2nd cylinder due to my head gasket so I know I can do better.

I believe it depends on the price the dealer was asking for the car for one thing, the next thing would be the shear beauty of the automobile at pocket, there are a lot of models and a great many admirers of the mbz so it really comes to the thing of all things how a driver feels in the seat of the car and how the car responds to the driver in their seat??
