Water pump

I just logged on for the first time in many months. I cannot believe that the membership went from about 1800 to now almost 5000 since I joined. Well actually I can tell, but still in awe none the less. I am noticing many improvements to this site and posting convenience. Kudos to the web adminstrator.

By the way, I just spent around $600 to replace my water pump on my 300. Why so expensive? Is there some gold shavings in that thing? Why can't the pump be fixed, it always has to be replaced?

How many miles does a water pump and a radiator usally last in the two Benzs that I have? Had a small leak in the radiator while under pressure (14 psig) and had to replace that as well.

Thanks Guyz

Most the expense is labor cost, it seem so easy to access the water pump, but many parts in front of the engine must be removed.

I replaced my 300E's water pump a few year ago. the rebuild water pump cost little less than $100. I thought the leak is the pump seal, but I think the cause is the pump to engine's o-ring.

My water pump failed on my 300E at 110,000 miles. The total cost was about $180 for the pump and a hose (some upgraded pump) and 5 hours of labor.

My water pump on my '94 wagon cost me $800. That's the cost of living in Connecticut. Can't complain too much because I noticed high temp reading on the highway heading for work - called the dealer from the car and it was fixed by 3:00 pm that day.

Mine went out on the E320 at around 104k miles. Replaced the radiator at the same time. Don't remember all the cost for parts (from fastlane.com) but I provided all the labor.

I guess I cannot complain. I have around 192k. I am a little worried now about the timing chain going.
