W126 Speedometer Question

In my new to me 1980 280SE Euro.
The speedometer won't work most of the time. The odometer also will not work, I fixed the odo on my W115 and I assume it's prolly the same problem.
When I drove the car home from getting it, the speedo started working after about 5 miles or so. I was looking in Fastlane for a speedo cable and right below it I saw a speedometer transmitter. Could this be the part I need instead of the cable? The speedo works after you drive it around awhile, so that wouldn't be indicative of the cable would it?
Also is the cluster removed about the same way as my W115?
I want to try and repair the odometer on this car as well.
Thanks

Typically if the speedo doesn't work the odometer doesn't, so probably both problems will be fixed once the speedo is fixed.
On the transmitter, can you link me to the page at fastlane?
A couple things come to mind, the transmitter might be on the tranny on the later cars with electric speedo, not sure what year that started, or the transmitter might be the pickup on the back of the speedo which the cruise control used to regulate speed (it's the speed sensor in other words, I know for awhile the sensor was built onto the back of the speedo).
My guess is the sppedo itself is at fault. Could pull the cluster out and srive it like that while trying to observe if the inner speedo cable keeps spinning or if it stops. I'm sure someone can link you to a good speedo repair place.

Here is the link to the speedometer transmitter:

Gosh! that's a big link!

It says it plugs in the rear of the instrument housing.

I figure the odometer is failing due to that little pot metal gear that starts to slip with age. The speedometer will work after the car is driven a few miles, like the speedo has to warm up or something.

Yes, the transmitter works off of the speedo to generate a speed sig for the cruise, so it's not that.
