I move that all cars have built-in ODB2 reading capability. With all the frivolous gadgets auto makers install into their vehicles, they could at least put something useful into the vehicle.

They do, at least up until they got CAN, which was required in 2008. But it's not really a full diagnostic system, just compliance with a government emissions requirement.

What he means is an actual scanner readout right in the car.........the Dealers would love that.

Ah - that would be nice, and probably not that expensive, but government would have to mandate it, which doesn't seem likely - everyone seems resigned to the death of DIY car repair.
